Opening Doors to Social Equality
Creating a just and equal society by opening the doors of higher education to all Israelis, advocating for marginalized communities, and leveraging Haifa’s diverse population and unique history to promote tolerance and coexistence.
University of Haifa is Israel’s most diverse campus, inspiring creativity and driving innovation.
We are a microcosm of Israel’s rich social mosaic: Jews, Christians, Muslims, Druze, international students, and security personnel, all of whom study and socialize together in an atmosphere of respect and tolerance.
We believe the only way to successfully meet the world’s future technological, economic, health, and social challenges is to reduce inequality, invest in initiatives promoting social mobility, and strengthen the social fabric.
Social Mobility Program
Empowering, expanding, and redefining the role of Israeli higher education as an engine for change
The University of Haifa is the first university in Israel to define social mobility as a strategic objective. We believe that an inclusive system of higher education, with an emphasis on academic excellence for students from a variety of backgrounds, offers a critical engine for social mobility and strengthening Israeli society. The Social Mobility Program offers comprehensive financial, academic, and social support including career counseling.
Haifa Laboratory for Religious Studies
Research and dialogue to strengthen Israeli Society
The Haifa Laboratory for Religious Studies is capitalizing on the unique strengths of the city of Haifa as one of the most multi-religious settings in the world to advance our understanding of the role that religions can play in promoting social cohesion in an increasingly diverse society. The Laboratory aims to facilitate a community of scholars whose interdisciplinary research promotes dialogue between religious leaderships and collaborations with local and international religious communities and institutions. The initiative is being led by Dr. Uriel Simonsohn of the Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies.
Legal Clinics for Social Change
Integrating legal theory with casework, advocacy and research
The Legal Clinics for Social Change at the Faculty of Law contribute to advancing human rights and democratic values in Israel. Seven specialized clinics handle more than 500 cases per year on behalf of marginalized populations. The hands-on program gives law students an opportunity to work on real cases in diverse areas of law. The Clinics are directed by Dr. Tammy Harel Ben-Shahar from the Faculty of Law.
